Update on “Subway Superman”
I posted about the Subway hero the other day. A few days ago, Wesley Autrey, a construction worker on his way to work, saw a young man fall onto the subway tracks. He quickly took action that saved the young man’s life.
Now Wesley has received New York’s highest civic award for what he did. I saw a few of his comments on the news and was very impressed. He downplayed what he did, saying something like ‘the real heroes are our young people fighting in Iraq’. According to the news article I just linked to:
“You see somebody in distress, you help out,” Autrey told a news conference, as he was flanked by his 4- and 6-year-old daughters, who had watched their father jump onto the subway tracks. “I was just in the right place at the right time.”
One funny detail: his boss didn’t believe Wesley’s ‘excuse’ for why he was late to work until he saw the story on the news!
