Ted Turner’s Turning
Ted Turner (yeah, that one) is joining up with the Lutherans and the Methodists to throw a TON of money at the Malaria problem in Africa. This might seem like odd bedfellows, given Turner’s past acrimony toward Christianity in general (”a religion for losers”). But human suffering and tragedy has a way of pulling together even adversaries to bring relief. It sounds like Mr. Turner is becoming a tad bit more tolerant in his old age, and seems to have an entirely different viewpoint on religion. His new take?
“Religion is one of the bright spots as far as I’m concerned, even though there are some areas, like everything else, where they’ve gone over the top a little, in my opinion, ” Turner said. “But I’m sure God, wherever he is, wants to see us get along with one another and love one another.”
Here is the AP story: Turner, Churches Work To Fight Malaria
Are the Christians (Lutherans and Methodists) selling out? Is Ted Turner selling out? Is this just a really cool example of how Jesus can impact the world (including the Ted Turners of the world) if we who follow him are willing to join with others who are actually doing what Jesus thinks is important (like his list of qualifications for heaven in Matt. 25)?
What do you think is going on here?

Apparently (from reading the article) Ted’s a deist and he has some sort of moral construct. It looks like he aligns his moral construct with the Christian moral construct and wherever they touch … work it!
Not a bad model. (We always seem to be focused on where they don’t touch.)
