Generosity
How a plastic cup can make us all cry…
Wednesday night, at Solomon Center (a food pantry), we were running very low on supplies. We have had a doubling of those receiving and have not been able financially to double our supplies. Therefore, we had a list of things we were out of on the white board.
A guest, in a walker, came down to receive services. He saw that we were out of shampoo. After he received his order, he went up the stairs with his walker (we are not handicapped accessible)…walked in the pouring rain to his car which was parked in the visitors lot which is far from the door. He got in his car and got a plastic cup filled with shampoos from a hotel…and walked it all the way back up to the center, down the stairs and gave it to us to help people who needed shampoo. The he walked back up the stairs, and back to the car in the pouring rain.
We were all overwhelmed by his generosity. Just like the widow who gave the mite, he gave out of his poverty. How many of us do this?
By the way, as a group we decided not to give away the shampoo, but to save it as a symbol of his generosity.
