It occured to me, not long ago: "What if we're keeping ourselves accountable to the WRONG THINGS?" The wrong attitudes. The wrong behaviors. The wrong cultural-removal or societal-sterility. If keeping my brother "accountable" to avoiding alchohol of any kind prevents him from sitting down and having a beer with a non-Christian friend who desperately needs an ear or a shoulder, then that's the wrong accountability.
