I Met Jesus at the Quick Mart

I met Jesus last night at the Quick Mart. He was picking through the garbage can, eating and drinking what others had thrown away. I asked him if I could buy him some food and some drink. He said yes, and his breath was strong with alcohol (maybe he needed it to stomach the garbage). I took him inside to choose his food. He said, “How much can I have?” I said, “As much as you want.”

It cost me $11.05 to feed Jesus last night. I will never be the same.

Randy, it means so much to me when leaders ‘practice what they preach’. Thanks for sharing this OA with us.

It sounds like it meant a lot to you too.

Just finished reading Francis Chan’s new book, “Crazy Love”. In it he deals with the end of Matt. 25 and says this:

“Jesus is saying that we show tangible love for God in how we care for the poor and those who are suffering. He expects us to treat the poor and the desperate as if they were Christ himself.

Ask yourself this: If you actually saw Jesus starving, what would you do for him?”

This was a bit of what I felt, I think. I was so overwhelmed by the moment I didn’t even ask the guy his name. And then I recalled Jesus’s words in Matt 25, and that gave context to my feelings and sense of awe and wonder. I didn’t even want to put this story on the blog because it felt so personal, but others encouraged me to post it anyway.

The other cool thing…my son, who is not a follower of Jesus, was there when this all happened. Don’t know for sure, but based on his response immediately afterwards, I think he saw Jesus there, too. This was another unspeakable gift to me.

Not sure about you, but I’m pretty sure I missed him in the past. I think I’ll recognize him better now, though.
